The spark plug cap on a YZ250F can
MY 2014 YAMHA YZ250F
My 2014 Yamaha YZ250F has run
great ever since I bought it. Then
a week ago it started fine and ran
great for the first lap, but then it
started to run very ragged. Before I
spend a lot of money at the dealer-
ship, is there something simple that I
should be looking for?
Yes. Because of the positioning of
the YZ250F spark plug, it is possible
for the spark plug cap to come loose.
This normally happens after cleaning
the bike. Water gets trapped down
in the spark plug cavity and can’t
get out because the weep hole is
blocked by a piece of dirt or debris.
The engine will start and run fine,
but very quickly the water trapped
in the spark plug cavity will boil. The
boiling water creates steam pressure
that lifts the spark plug cap off. This
is easy to check. Just go out to your
garage and push down on the spark
plug cap. If it snaps into place, you
have solved the problem.
