MECHANIC: CARLOS RIVERA
RIDER: RYAN DUNGEY
TEAM: RED BULL KTM
WHAT DOES RYAN LOOK FOR IN BIKE SETUP?
Ryan has wanted the same things since I began working with him five years ago; however, we’re constantly
trying to evolve and make every part of the bike better.
We always try to meet his needs. He makes requests and
wants improvements in some areas, so we make that
happen. Ryan mainly focuses on suspension. He wants
the bike to handle the way he likes. We’ve also done
some engine changes so the power is more usable. That
is done with mapping, and we’ve gotten the bike to run
cleaner and with more response. A 450 four-stroke has
plenty of power, so that’s not really an issue.
DO YOU DETUNE THE ENGINE? We do it a little
bit. Our Supercross engine package doesn’t have as much
peak horsepower as what we feed into the engine during
the outdoors. We detune the engine in some places, but
we add power in other places. The goal is to give Ryan
what he needs without going overboard.
WILL DUNGEY RACE WITH THE WP AIR
SHOCK AGAIN? It’s always a possibility. We’re trying
to develop the WP air shock in order to make it better.
The air shock has come a long way since we used it
