Considered the coolest Honda factory 125 rider and National winner at the time, Steve Lamson
was the guy to beat in 1994 and 1995. The Honda wing was proudly displayed on his helmet.
Steve was the first guy to win a motocross race wearing Troy Lee gear, which was a milestone
moment for us. That was a big deal for Troy Lee Designs.
I’ve painted approximately 56 helmets for Jeremy over the years. The first one was when he
started racing for Team Peak/Pro Circuit. I’m proud that Jeremy now wears TLD helmets, and I
even designed custom, limited-edition TLD/DC McGrath gear this year.
In 1996, Jeremy and I were big time into lowriders, and this helmet showed it. He was
thinking about buying a lowrider, and Dennis Danell from the music group Social Distortion had
one. I thought we should do a helmet that looked like a lowrider. That’s where the license plate
and the taillights came from. The lights actually blinked while he raced. The chrome and flat
black brought it all together.
