HOW TO INSTALL A WORKS CONNECTION PRO LAUNCH
The Works Connection Pro Launch start device is a must-have for racers who line up to a dirt starting gate; however, installing the
Pro Launch is daunting for someone who has never
done it before. Don’t be overwhelmed. Anyone with a
modicum of mechanical knowledge can easily install it.
Note that the CRF kit includes two fork-strap supports,
which require an additional step (not shown). If
additional guidance is necessary, please visit
WTIME TO COMPLETE:
• Hand drill
• Blue Loctite
• Razor blade
• Torque wrench
• 4mm Allen wrench
• Drill bits (3/16”, 5/16”)
• Phillips-head screwdriver
Remove the Phillips-head screws from the drill guide,
as well as the drill guide and paper template. Using a
razor blade, carefully trim away the excess plastic
material around the backside of the drill holes. It’s
important to have a smooth surface on the inside of the
fork guard holes.
Install the countersink drill bit (provided in the Works
Connection kit) into your power drill. Line up the center
of the countersink with the center of the largest hole.
Carefully bore all of the way through the plastic. Then,
attach a 5/16-inch drill bit to your drill. Carefully drill out
the last remaining hole, which is found directly above
the bottom hole.
Attach a 3/16-inch drill bit into your drill, and carefully
drill the upper hole followed by the bottom hole. Remove
the Phillips-head screws from the Works Connection
red-anodized trigger assembly. Press the screws through
the drill guide and the plastic. This helps support the drill
guide and ensures that it remains in the proper location.
Works Connection includes a template with three different height options (90mm, 100mm and 110mm). The
100mm setting is standard. Select the desired template,
cut it out, and tape it to your right fork guard. Make
sure that you accurately line up the template on the fork
guard. Tape the aluminum drill guide on top of the paper
template using the outlines for proper placement. Do
not be afraid to use a judicious amount of tape around
the perimeter of the drill guide to ensure that it doesn’t
move during the drilling process.
With the bike sitting on a stand,
remove the front wheel, right fork
leg (non-brake side) and right
fork guard. Locate the Works
Connection fork ring and remove
the bolt. Carefully slide the fork
ring down the fork leg, gently
spreading the opening of the fork
ring over the widest part of the
leg until the ring bottoms out
against the base of the upper fork
stanchion. Do not tighten the fork
ring yet. Reinstall the right fork
leg, but not the fork guard.
