What was new in the February 2010
Five years doesn’t seem
that long ago, but in the motocross
world, things change fast. Here are
some of the things that were in the
Jett Boots: For some unknown
reason, these incredibly cool plastic
boots never caught on. They were
sleek, slim and light, but, with the
exception of Christophe Pourcel, no
one chose to race in them.
Reverse-cylinder, fuel-injected
two-strokes: Ossa had the two-
stroke crowd a blither with its laid-
back 280 two-stroke engine. It had
a swooping expansion chamber
and fuel injection, but it never
really made a dent in the market.
Omega Mega neck brace: The
Omega brace addressed a lot
of issues that riders who were
reluctant to commit to a hard
plastic neck brace were con-
cerned about. Its back struts
were widely spaced. It was
open in the front. It used
;exible plastic and elastomer
bumpers to absorb shock. It
was very light and slipped on
with ease. But, it, too,
disappeared from America.
World Vet Championship:
Doug Dubach won his 16th
and 17th World Vet titles in
2010. This year, he won his
23rd and 24th crowns.
Giuseppe Luongo: In
the February 2010 issue,
printed a block-
buster exposé on how
Giuseppe Luongo was
running the FIM World
Championships. We didn’t
write it for American
consumption, but for
the GP riders who were
being run roughshod
over by Luongo and
his FIM cronies. Guess
what? You can’t help
people who don’t
want to be helped.
Nothing has changed
in Europe.
“Jody’s Box”:
The last lines in
the February 2010
“Jody’s Box” column
were, “You test
gold by softness.
You test men by
adversity.” ❑
