All the dials in the world can’t help you
if you don’t know how to use them.
HIGH SPEED VERSUS
MXA always recommends using
the high-speed compression clicker
to “set the ride height of the bike
in motion.” I don’t get how a clicker
could change the ride height. Doesn’t
the preload on the shock spring set
the ride height?
Spring preload sets the ride height
of the bike when it is not in motion.
Once the bike starts to move, the
shock becomes an active mechanism with pressurized oil flowing
throughout its orifices. When you
close down the high-speed orifice,
it restricts oil flow and the bike
assumes a taller attitude at speed,
while less high-speed compression
damping will allow the rear to ride
a little lower at speed. High-speed
compression does more than “set the
ride height of the bike in motion,”
but this is one of its duties.
