The racing was great; however, the fans and racers
alike live for the Saturday night party in the tent and the
“Lap of Stars” on Sunday. Seeing the legends of the sport
on the bikes they once rode is why the fans line up next
to the fences. This year, a fan could see Broc Glover on a
YZ490, Johnny O’Mara on a CR125, Dave Thorpe on a full
replica of his 500 World Championship CR500 and many
One of the highlights of the weekend was getting
Johnny O’Mara and Dave Thorpe to talk about the moto
where Johnny was on a CR125 and passed Thorpe on his
CR500 at the 1986 Motocross des Nations in Maggiora,
Italy. They were both a bit apprehensive to say much,
but with a little provoking, it was a story worth hearing.
There have been many other legends that have graced
the Saturday-night party, so there is always something
special about the event.
