DREAMJOBS
LIVING WHAT YOU LOVE
STARTING POINT: “My father
was a rider himself and loved anything with two wheels and an engine.
So, as a kid, I was always surrounded
by bikes and spent countless hours
in the workshop with dad working
on dirt bikes. I started racing motocross myself at 8 years of age when
the family moved to New Zealand.
The moto bug has stuck with me.”
This consists of testing prototypes,
managing advertising, promotion
and controlling inventory. My main
responsibility is simply to promote the
product the best I can by creating as
much exposure as possible to get the
concept and name into the market.
It’s a two-person job that I share with
my father. We spend countless hours
designing and testing our products
before going into manufacturing.”
STARTING POINT: “I didn’t
have the typical moto family upbringing, but I sought out opportunities
to be more active in the sport. I got
a job at a local dealership and, after
a few years, I made the jump to a
sales rep position with an apparel
company. When I finished my degree
in communications, I landed on the
advertising team at Thor.”
THE JOB: “I manage the trafficking of Thor’s marketing materials on
various channels, from maintaining
the ad schedule to coordinating
catalog production, media buying,
communicating with media personnel
and race event support. I’m happy
to get involved in as many areas as
I can. It’s nice to be part of a company with so much history. Listening
to Torsten Hallman tell stories about
the past on an occasional office visit
is pretty awesome.”
STARTING POINT: “I raced
locally at the same time that DeCal
Works owner Ron Joynt was racing.
Fast-forward 10 or so years to when I
was doing charity work as a custom
helmet painter. Ron was racing shifter
karts and wanted his helmet painted.
I visited DeCal Works when it was
growing as a company. Ron
persuaded me that paying to breathe
paint fumes versus working for him
meant I could actually start to receive
a paycheck.”
THE JOB: “I’ve been a team
member at DeCal Works for 14 years.
I head up multiple areas of the design
department. I work with nine other
designers to make sure DeCal Works
products are the best in all areas. I
like the fact that I’m working for
and with 27 other like-minded people,
sharing similar ideals on the
company’s growth and goals.” ❏
