Last year KTM sold 158,760 machines. That is a 28. 2
percent increase over the year before. Husqvarna, which
is also manufactured at the Mattighofen facility, sold
16,337 bikes. According to KTM, that is the most bikes
Husqvarna has ever sold in its 112-year history. Under
previous BMW management, Husqvarna’s best year was
2012 when they sold 10,751 bikes. CEO Stefan Peirer
believes that in the next five years Husky sales will
increase to 35,000 units a year, making them the number
three European brand.

More than half of all of KTM’s products are sold outside of Europe with 52 percent exported and 48 percent
staying on the continent. KTM is the largest-selling
European brand worldwide. Americans will be proud to
hear that KTM’s largest motorcycle market is the United
States, which gets 20 percent of its output, fueled by a
30-percent increase in KTM dirt bike sales last year. And,
even though they are not available in the U.S. market,
KTM sold 2000 electric bikes and plans to increase
production to 10,000 units in the near future.
Increased production means demand for KTM’s models
will be rising at a rapid rate. This will make supplying
the consumer with what he wants harder, which will
demand better techniques and faster ways to bring

improved technology to the market. Imagine how fast
they will be able to build a KTM motorcycle 20 years
from now. It might all happen in the blink of an eye.
Impossible? Who would have thought robots would
be building motorcycles 100 years ago? Henry Ford,

with certain steps in the process,
human hands are instrumental.
