WHAT STANDS OUT? Here’s a list of things that
stand out with the UFO Plastic Suzuki RM85 Restyle kit.
(1) Design. The Suzuki RM85 hasn’t received a facelift
since the dawn of man—or, more accurately, the year
2000. Over three generations of youngsters have ridden
the same basic design package. The Suzuki RM85’s
plastic has been stuck in a time warp.
( 2) Concept. UFO Plastic continues to swing for the
fences with its increasingly popular Restyle kits. With
two-strokes still running old-school plastic, consumers
want to improve either the performance and aesthetics
of their ring-dings. The UFO Restyle kits don’t exactly
bolster performance, but they completely change the
look of a bike.
( 3) Restyle kit. UFO designed its own front and rear
fenders to spruce up the RM85’s appearance. The fender
alone helps the RM on the looks scale. The sleek lines
and sharp points of the fenders revitalize a minicycle that
otherwise looks like Joan Rivers pre-collagen. UFO also
makes radiator shrouds, side panels and a front number
plate as part of the $149.99 kit.
( 4) Graphics. Finding graphics companies that
make pieces to fit the UFO redesign kit is not easy.
Luckily, UFO made a deal with HBD Moto Grafx to
make custom-printed graphics for the RM85 Restyle kit
for $125.99. The HBD Moto Grafx looked good, but the
material was too thick, and, even with a blow-dryer,
the decals didn’t stick well at the edges.
( 5) Installation. Every piece lined up properly. No
modifications to the mounting holes were necessary.
WHAT’S THE SQUAWK? We have three quibbles: (1)
Your kid’s Suzuki RM85 won’t go any faster with the
UFO Restyle kit, but your kid will feel better about his
bike. ( 2) The HBD Moto Grafx graphics don’t go on
easily and tend to lift on the edges. ( 3) This is a band-aid
on a bike that is long overdue for a remake by Suzuki.
Are you sick of the RM85’s antiquated design,
then ring up UFO Plastic. If money is tight, the
Restyle front and rear fenders will set you back
less than $40. It’s a win-win.
