250 SHOOTOUT TRIVIA
I was surprised not to find a 2014
250 shootout in the February issue.
Every other magazine had one,
while all you had was a YZ250F
test. Are you guys asleep at the
We elected to spend more time
comparing the 2014 Yamaha
YZ250F against the other brands
instead of rushing it into a shootout
before we were sure where it
ranked. Yes, we could have put it
in our February 2014 issue, but it
wouldn’t have been right for the
consumer, fair to Yamaha or the
way we like to test bikes. We spent
an extra six weeks racing and
testing the YZ250F against the
other bikes before we felt that we
knew enough to include it in our
“250 Shootout,” which you can
read on page 76.
2014 250 Shootout.
I want to run a rubber-mounted
top clamp on my 2013 YZ250F. I
see the 2014 model now uses a
rubber-mounted clamp. Will the 2014
clamp fit on my 2013 YZ250F?
Yes, the 2014 top clamp will fit on
the 2013, but it would be easier and
cheaper to order a rubber-mounted
top clamp for your 2013 YZ250F from
Applied Racing for $186.95. Go to
www.appliedrace.com or call
(800) 853-0555. ❏
KINDLE OR NOT
Is it possible to read Motocross
Action magazine on my Kindle?
Yes, but only on the Kindle Fire.
You can find it at www.amazon.com.
THEY ARE BULLETPROOF
I would like to know what bikes
you have found to be the most
reliable in each class. I like the 2014
Honda CRF450, but I had lots of
valve problems with them back in
2007. Which bike, in your opinion,
has the best reliability?
That is an easy question to answer.
The Yamaha YZ450F and YZ250F
are the most reliable motocross bikes
made—by leaps and bounds.
MY YZ250 SQUEALS
While I was warming up my 2013
YZ250 two-stroke, it started making a
squealing noise, then it went away.
It never made this noise before. Any
There are two possibilities: (1)
The YZ250 squealing noise could
be coming from the clutch push
rod. Remove the clutch pressure
plate and inspect the push rod and
actuator arm for galling or foreign
matter. ( 2) The transmission oil could
be low and the kickstart idler gear is
squealing. Do not use the check hole
to determine oil level, but instead fill
the tranny with the listed volume.
