THE CHOICE OF CHAMPIONS
MARCH 2014/ MOTOCROSS ACTION 25
The Husqvarna 701 concept bike features a 690cc, single-cylinder, four-stroke
engine, which produces a reported 75 horsepower. The chromoly trellis frame uses
WP forks and rear suspension. The Supermoto-style bike has a futuristic style, with
bodywork, LED lights and small wheels.
At one time, Roger DeCoster,
Bob Hannah and Heikki Mikkola wore
all-leather Alpinestars Supervictory
boots—now, Jody is the last holdout.
But, Alpinestars is introducing a modernized version of the Supervictory boot,
with nostalgic styling, a stamped-steel
shin plate and a $329.95 retail price.
The EPA now wants to reduce the
total amount of ethanol required in
transportation fuel for 2014. This could
slow the introduction of E15 fuel in the
USA. This is good news for
motorcyclists, since the 15 percent
ethanol mix is not approved for use in
most current models of bikes. Under
the federal law, fuel producers must
blend 18. 15 billion gallons of renewable
fuels into their product, but the EPA
wants to reduce that amount by 3
billion gallons, which means they won’t
be adding ethanol to fuel in 2014.
