2017 KTM 250SX
QUESTIONS—LOTS OF THEM
I am in the process of buying
a 2017 KTM 250SX and would
like your input on these ques-
tions: (1) After reading the test,
which spring do you have in the
power valve—the one that comes
stock or the red one? ( 2) The test
says to turn it counterclockwise
three-quarters of a turn out. Is this
correct? ( 3) I am 200 pounds with
gear on. Which rear spring do
you suggest—the 4. 5 N/m or the
4. 8 N/m? ( 4) I have a 2013 KTM
250SX, and back then you suggest-
ed the heavier 5. 7 spring for my
weight and that was spot-on.
Here are the answers to your
questions. (1) Stock power-valve
spring. ( 2) We run the power-valve
adjuster all the way out, then in
1-1/4 turns. ( 3) The stock 250SX
shock spring is 42 N/m, and we

who think it is fine. You shouldn’t
have to go stiffer than 45 N/m,
but only if the free sag is not
within the 30mm to 40mm range.
( 4) Back in 2013 the KTM 250SX
came with a 5. 4 N/m spring,
which was iffy for riders above
175 pounds. That is why our 5. 7
N/m recommendation worked for
