Even though it is
not a bootie boot,
it hugged our feet
to the point where the boot/foot
interface felt like a single unit. It made us feel
more planted on the footpegs compared to wider
and heavier boots. There were no hot spots, and
break-in was seamless. With only three buckles,
we made sure to tighten them extra snug.

The Scalvini cone pipe and silencer produced one of the
best-looking and crispest-sounding KTM 125SXs ever.
Every MXA test rider gave the Scalvini system two
thumbs up. It gave up a smidgen of throttle response at
the crack of the throttle, but anyone riding a 125 should
have the throttle twisted to the stops. That’s where the
power is found. The brunt of the Scalvini’s power was
right in the middle, and then it pulled hard over the top.
DIGITS: $279.00 (cone pipe), $175.00 (aluminum silencer
with carbon tip), $247.00 (full carbon fiber silencer)—

The Tube Saddle is
a foam insert that slips
between the inner tube,
the rim and the tire bead. Think
of it as one-third of a mousse, because it fills the lower
portion of the rim and tire with a foam protector that
eliminates the dreaded rim pinch.
VERDICT: The biggest plus of the Tube Saddle was
that the MXA test riders were able to run much lower
tire pressures than normal. We recommend starting at
10 psi front and rear with the admonition that hard-pack
dirt may require more air pressure, while soft dirt, sand
or mud may require much less.

rear and minicycle sizes)—

SHOT CONTACT RACE GEAR
At under $100, the Shot Contact pants are reasonably
priced and definitely fly in the face of the current trend
of ultra-expensive high-end gear. Shot Contact gear is
offered in seven different colorways. The jersey comes
in sizes small to double extra-large, and the pants are
offered in sizes 26 to 38. Shot also offers kids’ gear too.
VERDICT: Kudos to Shot. We saw some wear on the
Kevlar knee patches and complained. They stopped the
assembly line and replaced the Kevlar knees with full-grain leather. Shot Contact gear is very light, and we
like the feel of the material against our skin.
DIGITS: $32.90 (jersey), $99.90 (pants)—
