WHAT STANDS OUT? Here’s a list of things that
stand out with the Thor Phase Vented Rift gear.
(1) Pants. The Thor Phase vented pants are built for
hot days. Most MXA test riders wear full-length knee
socks and knee braces, so the effect is muted. However,
for test riders who wore knee-length socks and knee
guards, the breeze was noticeable. The Phase vented
pants are form-fitting and light. They are equipped with
a ratchet-style waist closure that includes a snap and
small Velcro patch to ensure a secure fit. The waist also
has a stretch panel on each hip that allows for 1-1/2
inches of flex on each side. The leather inner-knee panels
were durable against heat and abrasion, but on taller
riders there was a gap between the end of the leather
and the rider’s boot. The stitching is double- and
triple-stitched, but after a few rides we noticed some
fraying of the threads.
( 2) Lining. The pants’ inner lining is 3/4-length mesh.
It is stitched at the bottom in one small place to keep
it from riding up when you put the pants on. We vastly
prefer to have the mesh liners tacked than not tacked.
( 3) Jersey. Thor’s vented jersey has an athletic mesh
construction that has a good fit and flows air well. It
was comfortable, fit well and was minimalistic. We
would like to have seen a tail in the rear of the jersey to
aid in keeping the jersey tucked in. We also would have
liked elbow pads to aid in those pesky tip-overs. It is
worth mentioning that there is a 4-inch-long tag sewn to
the bottom of the jersey. You will want to get rid of
it ASAP, but make sure that you cut it out instead of
tearing it out.
( 4) Comfort. The Phase Rift pants and jersey were
extremely comfortable, and even with excessive
undergarments on, the venting does work. This is great
gear for hot cliimates.
( 5) Options. The Thor Phase vented pant comes in
sizes 28 to 44. The matching jersey comes in small to
triple extra-large. Thor’s Phase vented gear comes in
three color combinations.
WHAT’S THE SQUAWK? Although we did not have
major durability issues, we were concerned about the
fraying of the threads. Tall riders will have issues with
the leather knee pads. And, if you rip the tag off the
back of the jersey, you will rip the jersey itself.
At almost half the price of Thor’s top-of-the-line
THOR MX PHASE VENTED RIFT GEAR
gear, the Phase gear is a good buy made all
that much better by virtue of its venting.
